About the Buddy Program
 
 Policies
Basic Policies
- According to the Buddy Program, three international students are introduced to two Korean
   students (3:2 maximum 4-5 people)
- The Buddy Program will be expanded after the second semester of 2009.
- The Buddy Program will include a special class where both Korean and international students can
   study together and share experiences.
 
Policies on eligilbility
A. Criteria for Buddy Program students
* Selection Committee: about 10 people

* The Buddy Program students will be selected on the basis of gender, age, foreign language
    proficiency, and motivation.
    - The Buddy Program Students must attend Sunchon National University and will be selected
       through announcements.
      · The Buddy Program candidates must have a passion for making friends with international
         students.
      · The Buddy Program committee welcomes the Korean students who enjoy introducing
         Sunchon National University and Korean culture.
    - International students or exchange students will take the precedence over other students.
    - If an international student wants to make friends with a particular Korean student they will get
      preference
 
B. Buddy Program functions
* Opening orientation and assignment of roles
    - Buddy Program student responsibilities
      · Language Exchange : students can learn each other's languages.
      · Guide campus life : show school facilities, register for classes, write papers, participate in
         events, etc
      · Discussions on Korean culture: Buddy program students will have a discussion after
         watching a video (about Korean History, Korean Cultures, Korean pop music, and etc)
      · Make memories: by recreational events such as going to the movies, shopping, taking field
         trips, visiting tour spots, cooking Korean foods, learning Taekwondo, and etc.
    - Students must meet with partner students twice a week (one session = two hours)
      · weekly journals on experiences and reflections
    - participate in international programs held by the University

* Buddy students will also receive many benefits.
    - Buddy students' benefits are pre-approved
      · international students (or exchange students) selected for the Buddy Program will receive
         additional points.
      · volunteer credit : one credit
         (*applied only to students who take Volunteer & Social Work Studies)
      · Hyang-rim Employment points: 20 points per semester
    - Each Buddy student will be awarded a Buddy Program certificate by the dean of the
      International Center
    - Activity expense : Each Buddy team will receive 200,000 Won each month (2nd semester 2009
       numbers)
